Side Blind Zone Alert in Buick LaCrosse Can Help Avoid Lane Change Mishaps

DETROIT (April 5, 2010) - It has happened to every driver at one time or another; another vehicle hiding in your blind spot when you are trying to change lanes. Even when no crash results, your heart pounds from the adrenaline rush of the close call.

Help in preventing these all-too-frequent near misses is available in the form of a small orange icon that appears on the side mirrors of the 2010 Buick LaCrosse. The aptly named Side Blind Zone Alert system uses radar-equipped sensors to provide an extra set of “eyes” to monitor the vehicle’s side blind spots.

GM to Expand Brake Override Software Globally by 2012

DETROIT (April 5, 2010) � General Motors will expand use of �enhanced smart pedal� technology globally to all passenger cars with automatic transmissions and electronic throttle control, providing an additional safeguard to enhance customer confidence.

Also known as brake override, the change involves modifying existing electronic controls to reduce power to the engine in cases where the brake and accelerator pedal are being depressed at the same time. The global rollout will be completed by the end of 2012.

Arlington Assembly Plant Supports Safe Kids Event

ARLINGTON, Texas (March 31, 2010) - On March 7, 42 volunteers took time from their weekend to support the Tarrant County Safe Kids Buckle Up event held at the assembly plant. Of the volunteers, 12 were UAW-GM Arlington employees, who assisted with the car seat check-up effort. The turn-out for the event was a success � a total of 27 families participated in the program. During the event, volunteers checked 49 car seats. In addition, Safe Kids of Tarrant County donated 30 child seats to families who had a need.
